Desmond steps in to tee up Rodgers for stunning return

BRENDAN RODGERS was still weighing up the biggest decision of his life last night after a personal intervention by Celtic owner Dermot Desmond to lure him back to Parkhead.

Record Sport understands the former Hoops boss is at his family holiday home in Majorca where he is mulling over a shock return after Desmond persuaded him to meet face-to-face with Celts chief executive Michael Nicholson and financial supremo Chris McKay.

The top-level delegation was invited to fly to the Spanish island after Desmond held two phone calls with Rodgers, during which he asked the 50-year-old to consider cutting short a planned year-long sabbatical from the game following his sacking by Leicester.

Major shareholder Desmond left Rodgers in no doubt about the strength of the club's desire to bring him back to Glasgow a little over four years after he faced a furious backlash from supporters for leaving.
