Ex-Celt Stokes hands himself in after a year

He is due to be sentenced over text campaign

FORMER Celtic star Anthony Stokes has appeared in court wearing handcuffs after flying from Ireland to answer a warrant for his arrest almost a year after it was issued.

He flew from Dublin on Tuesday and handed himself in to a Glasgow police station, where he was held overnight before appearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court yesterday.

The 35-year-old footballer had been due to be sentenced for bombarding his ex-girlfriend Eilidh Scott with offensive text messages.

But he failed to last appear September and the court was told he had ignored calls from social workers trying to create background reports on him.
