THE sporting world was in mourning last night following the death of legendary TV presenter Dickie Davies.
Famed for his bushy moustache, sideburns and coiffured brown hair, Davies was one of the most recognisable faces on British television as the voice of, and the frontman for, ITV's World of Sport.
He passed away yesterday, aged 94, and the sad news was broken by his friend and fellow TV sports presenter Jim Rosenthal.
Speaking on behalf of the Davies family, he said: "With huge sadness we announce Dickie Davies passed away this morning.
"So proud of his 20 years of World of Sport, three Olympic Games and a brilliant career on the telly. He is survived by a loving wife, two adoring sons, four grandkids and two beloved dogs."
Rosenthal added: "Dickie was a wonderful friend and colleague."
Davies remained instantly recognisable despite his once brown locks turning white.
