AN SNP MSP has claimed large groups of football fans do more harm than antiabortion protesters who gather outside health clinics.
John Mason said the pro-life campaigners pose no threat to people, unlike supporters who "intimidate and harass".
Labour MSP Monica Lennon said: "This is a ludicrous and offensive thing to say. Safe access zones at abortion clinics are necessary to protect women and girls, and John Mason needs an urgent reality check."
Mason was responding to a consultation by Green MSP Gillian Mackay on cracking down on harassment of women and staff outside abortion facilities.
Her "safe access zones" Bill would make it an offence to protest or stop a woman from accessing abortion services within 200 metres of a clinic.
Mason, who represents Glasgow Shettleston, is opposed to the Bill and believes the protests are peaceful.
