Labour leader demands tycoon Mone returns £60m Covid profits gained from selling PPE to government | He says it's absolutely disgusting peer is playing victim when real victims were NHS staff & patients
PRESSURE was last night growing on lying Michelle Mone to pay back the millions she and husband Doug Barrowman made from a Covid PPE deal.
Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar claimed it was "absolutely disgusting" the Ultimo bra tycoon "seems to think she's a victim in a growing scandal over how contracts were awarded by the UK government in 2020.
Mone and millionaire Barrowman appeared in a car crash TV interview on Sunday in which they denied any wrongdoing and claimed they had been made "scapegoats" for wider failings over PPE.
They are being probed by the National Crime Agency on suspicion of fraud and bribery.
PPE Medpro, the firm which won £202million PPE ME of Covid contracts in 2020, is being sued in the High Court by the Department of Health and Social Care for breach of contract for allegedly supplying non-sterile gowns.
It comes as former Tory minister Michael Gove was called on by Labour to explain his role in the scandal after Mone named him during the interview with Laura Kuenssberg.
Rishi Sunak yesterday insisted he was taking the issue of Mone's involvement in a PPE firm "incredibly seriously".
Mone, 52, told the BBC on Sunday she had been "vilified", adding: "We've done one thing, which is lie to the Press to say we weren't involved.
"I don't honestly see what we've done wrong.
Sarwar said the real victims were healthcare workers and patients who couldn't get access to personal protection equipment during the pandemic. He added: "That's why we need to get our money back".
