A CLEANING expert has revealed the dirtiest items in your home.

Research has shown that people are exposed to an average of 60,000 types of germs every day.

Olivia Young, product development scientist from cleaning brand Astonish said the worst culprits for harbouring germs are not what you would expect, such as the toilet.

The kitchen cloth is one of the worst offenders.

Olivia said: "This might come as a bit of an unwanted surprise but sometimes the items that we use to clean surfaces and items throughout our homes are actually the dirtiest - especially the kitchen sponge or cloth.
