ALLY MACKAY will get a kick out of watching DC United going up against his boyhood heroes this weekend.
The American side’s general manager from the Isle of Lewis was a Hoops fan as a kid – but he revealed his love affair with the Parkhead club started off as a way to wind up his Rangers daft dad!
Mackay’s made an incredible journey in the game, starting life on the Western Isles and playing for Partick Thistle’s youth sides before heading across to the US and becoming part of the super agent Stellar Group before making his way as one of the top GMs in the MLS.
Mackay spent five years at Nashville – where he snapped up Celtic star Alistair John ston as a youngster – and made the move to the Capital club last November.
He’s kept tabs on the Hoops all the way and he admitted this weekend’s friendly clash at the Audi Field will be something special – and for once he might have his Gers supporting family on board if his team get a result.
Mackay said: “ I don’t remember why, but I fell out with my dad (Callum). “ It wasn’t anything big, it must have been about football. He’s a massive Rangers fan. I was like, you know what? I’m going to support Celtic.
“I think it was just one of those things where, maybe for a week, I watched a lot of Celtic games.
It was Paul McStay then it became Jorge Cadete and Pierre van Hooijdonk, Paolo Di Canio.
"I'm like, man, this team's actually pretty good and they're winning right now.
"It was kind of a joke initially because where I'm from, it's pretty distinct in terms of that.
