BOB MacINTYRE took huge confidence at gushing words from the mouths of Rory Mcllroy and Jon Rahm.
But it's the look in their eyes which mattered most.
And, when he arrived into the European team room, he saw it and knew for sure deep down inside he had their full respect.
MacIntyre couldn't beat Mcllroy at the Scottish Open, but his dazzling final display forced the four-time Major winner to produce his breathtaking best to beat him.
When it was over, the world No.2 stated that MacIntyre "could do anything.
Rahm was watching from afar as he prepared for The Open.
When he arrived at Hoylake, the Masters champ told the world's media that the Scot's Renaissance display under pressure was "absolutely miraculous" as he backed him to make the team.
MacIntyre took the words with pleasure, but he feels it is how someone acts that's the real guide.
And when the superstar duo and the rest of the European side greeted him at their practice day in Rome, he knew the comments were heartfelt.
MacIntyre said: "It's massive to hear, but it's easy to talk words. The way I see respect is the way someone meets you and greets you.
