JIMMY THELIN secured his first win in the Pittodrie dugout - but a chorus of boos at half-time was a reminder of the expectation for Aberdeen.
Second-half goals from Graeme Shinnie and Leighton Clarkson were enough for the Dons to rectify a frustrating opening 45 minutes.
Talisman Bojan Miovski had again been missing from the starting XI, amid the latest interest from Feyenoord, but his second-half introduction lifted the Dons and their fans.
Thelin said: "Bojan did really well with his presence and leading the press.
"He is a really good player, so of course he's going to make an impact when he plays.
"Still, if something happens we need to do the best with that and keep moving, that's the way it works." Thelin made three changes from the weekend win over East Kilbride as Dimitar Mitov, Sivert Nilsen and Slobodan Rubezic came in.
Airdrie started to get a rhythm going in the opening exchanges that made the Pittodrie atmosphere dour.
But while they had some good passages of play they did not trouble the home defence.
