Rowe: Playing wide for Scots wasn't my dream

SPEED merchant Kyle Rowe never dreamed of starring on the wing for Scotland’s rugby team as a kid – he was too busy playing in central midfield for his school’s football side. 

Even after deciding to concentrate on rugby, Rowe was a late developer.

The 25-year-old only signed for Edinburgh in 2020 – playing just once, in a meaningless end-of-season clash.

Then two seasons with London Irish ended unhappily as the exiles went into administration.

But at least he got enough game time there to convince Scotland coach Gregor Townsend to call him up.

However, his international debut – against Argentina in 2022 – only lasted ten minutes before he was carried off with a serious knee injury.

Two years on and happily settled at Glasgow Warriors, Rowe is firmly in the running for a place in Townsend’s team to take on Wales in Saturday’s Six Nations opener.
