PETER PAWLETT admits the sense of impending doom on Dundee United's survival bid has been a slow burner.

But after another afternoon of calamitous defending, the Grim Reaper could come calling at Tannadice on Wednesday night where defeat to Kilmarnock may see their relegation confirmed.

It was left to the midfielder to confront the brutal realities of a loss to Livingston where a potential lifeline was discarded with the selfinflicted wounds that have become so familiar this season.

With two games left and sitting three points from safety, they require a few Hail Marys and some snookers if they're to avoid Championship football next season.

Pawlett said: "This is my first time back in the squad after being injured but you can feel it among the squad. You have to stick together. There's still an opportunity there but it gets more critical and pressure builds.
