DONALD Trump knew he had "screwed up" after a scathing attack on a farmer who opposed his Scottish golf resort, his former project director has admitted.

The ex-US president became embroiled in a war of words with Michael Forbes who refused to leave his home on the Menie estate in Aberdeenshire to make way for the golf development.

Trump described the farmer's home as "disgusting and "a pig sty" and that led to a David and Goliath battle between the pair.

The tycoon's plans to build the golf resort had been on course to go ahead without much controversy at the time.
