Stus boys stick the boot in to Staggies with fivegoal Fir Park rollicking
STEEL TOE CAPS

MERCILESS Motherwell found their ruthless streak to pile the relegation pressure on Ross County and ease their own worries with a Fir Park mauling.

Stuart Kettlewell had urged his Steelmen to show their mettle in front of goal before this one after a run of three straight Premiership draws.

Well did that and more as they raced into a 3-0 lead just 38 minutes in before adding two late goals to send Derek Adams’ Staggies back up the road with serious doubts hanging over their top-flight credentials.

Andy Halliday’s first goal in claret and amber eight minutes in paved the way before Blair Spittal doubled the lead in a man-of-the-match display.

Theo Bair made it six goals in as many games from the penalty spot as Spittal went on to net a stunning fourth and debutant Jack Vale opened his account in added time.

It’s the Steelmen’s biggest win since trouncing County 5-0 in Dingwall in October 2022. And Well have now suffered just one defeat in nine games, seeing them jump above St Johnstone and Aberdeen into eighth place, only a point off the top six.

Truth be told, it could have been even more had Kettlewell’s side wanted to stick the knife in.
