Goodwin hails United for bowing out with a blockbuster show
THE EXTRA STYLE

DUNDEE UNITED turned on the style on their farewell to the second tier - but only after Thistle threatened to be party poopers at Tannadice.

The Jags, who could join United in the top flight next season through the play-offs, took a 13th-minute lead thanks to Ben Stanway.

But the Tangerines showed just why they are champions as they roared back with goals from Craig Sibbald, Kai Fotheringham, Tony Watt and a Louis Moult penalty.

It was a reward for boss Jim Goodwin, who transformed from them a sinking ship to kings of the Championship.

He said: "I am so proud of everyone and to bring a night like this to the club, I couldn't be more pleased.

"We wanted to go out in style and the players deserve credit for doing that. They maintained the high standards and it was good to get a few goals for the fans."

Skipper Ross Docherty said: "We are delighted.

"It was good to go out in style and give the fans something to cheer about.

"It feels amazing. It's been an honour to lead this team."
