RANGERS legend John Greig has spoken of his darkest day when 66 fans were crushed to death at Ibrox.
The 81-year-old recalled getting changed after the New Year Old Firm derby when he was told the news.
He said: “I was standing putting my shirt on and this guy came in and he said, ‘I think you’d better hurry up and get your clothes on John – because there’s been a disaster and they’re bringing bodies into the dressing room’.”
Greig was captain when 66 fans died and more than 200 were injured in the crush at stairway 13 while leaving Ibrox on January 2, 1971.
He would later help families of those who died and, when a memorial was unveiled outside the ground on the 30th anniversary of the disaster, it included a statue of him on top.
