PASSENGERS on a Delta Air Lines flight from Edinburgh to New York were left "in tears" after an engine caught fire just minutes after take-off.
Fire crews surrounded the DAL209 flight on the runway at Prestwick Airport after the aircraft made an emergency landing yesterday morning.
Video footage taken by a passenger on board showed flames billowing from the wing of the plane. Other flyers could be heard crying and frantically speaking in the background.
Passenger Julie Nisbet said a loud noise could be heard inside the aircraft before the pilot announced they were being rerouted. She claims to have spotted an unknown substance "leaking" from the plane.
