Probe into death of vulnerable teen abused & killed by brother

A PROBE is set to determine whether Amber Gibson was "failed" by the care system before she was brutally murdered and sexually assaulted by her brother.

The vulnerable 16-year-old was living at a children's unit in Hamilton when she was attacked by Connor Gibson, 20, in the town's Cadzow Glen, in November 2021.

Amber's heartbroken foster parents said her murder "could have been prevented" following her brother's conviction, saying both she and her killer had been "failed" by the care system.

Now, an independent review of the teen's death ordered by local authority chiefs is moving to its final stages, with witnesses in the criminal case set to be interviewed in a bid to determine if lessons can be learned from the tragedy.
