THE hair may be lower and the leopard print may be gone - but there's no mistaking the kilowatt smile of the Rovers' iconic landlady.

Coronation Street legend Julie Goodyear, who played Bet Lynch for 25 years, announced in June that she had been diagnosed with dementia.

But she and her husband, Scott Brand, are determined to make new memories together while they still can.

Julie, 81, was out and about for the first time since her diagnosis at the weekend, for an Alzheimer's Society's Memory Walks fundraiser.

She was joined by thousands of other walkers all dressed in light blue T-shirts and was pictured beaming from her wheelchair for the charity's flagship fundraiser.

Scott, 55, said: "Julie is living with Alzheimer's, not suffering with it. That's a big difference.

"Memory is one of the things most affected by this cruel disease, but Julie and I are also trying to make more memories together. Taking part in this walk was a wonderful new memory for us to share."
