Reassurance over government plan to free 500 inmates from overcrowded jails

VICTIMS will be told in advance before prisoners are released early from jail to ease an overcrowding emergency, the Justice Minister has claimed.

Angela Constance said she would work closely with victims' organisations to ensure people are informed around any prisoner releases.

It comes after she informed MSPs that she is seeking the emergency release of prisoners because some facilities have become "essentially full".
