Lessons in cuff justice

BUNGLING prison guards who let lags escape because they are not properly restrained are having lessons in how to cuff criminals.

The number of offenders who have done a runner from prison escort services has increased by 45% in the past year, according to Government documents.

In the 12 months from March 2021 there were 12 escapes, 11 of which occurred from contractor escorts and one from an HMPPS escort. That is an increase from five the previous year.
