JOHN STONES admits he has had a week to forget.
But the England star is hoping all the pain, sickness and fear will lead to making memories that will last forever.
Stones worried he might miss Euro 2024 after suffering a foot injury in the opening minute of England’s shock defeat by Iceland at Wembley (inset).
He thought his problems were behind him when scans revealed nothing too serious and he eventually boarded the plane to Germany.
But the defender was then struck down with a sickness bug on Tuesday, which forced him to miss training the following day while he was confined to his room – where he spent 36 hours stuck in bed.
Now there is light at the end of the tunnel, with Stones set to lead England’s defence when their campaign begins against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen tomorrow night.
