JACK WELSBY has turned his back on Sydney’s stunning beaches to prolong his stellar career in Super League.
The St Helens full-back last night signed an extended deal to stay at the club until 2027.
Welsby was a target for more than one NRL club after he captained England in two of the series-win games over Tonga, his country’s youngest skipper.
But the 22-year-old revealed it is a determination for more honours and a passion for his hometown football club Wigan Athletic that have kept him here.
Welsby said: “There are sunny beaches and lovely coffee shops in Australia but living in Wigan and playing for St Helens is perfect for my lifestyle and the way I live.
“I love this club and all involved and I couldn’t see myself anywhere else at this time.
