CAMERON ARCHER’S second-half double reignited the automatic promotion race, as Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough moved to within seven points of second-placed Sheffield United.
The on-loan Aston Villa striker blasted home from close range in the 48th minute after Chuba Akpom cancelled out Oli McBurnie’s early opener and then added his second in the final quarter.
The result was a disaster for the Blades, who had boss Paul Heckingbottom sent off for protesting after Archer’s second goal as the majority of the 29,084 crowd were left stunned.
United had not lost in 10 league games since early November.
