OWEN FARRELL stuck the boot into the boo boys after kicking England into the World Cup semi-finals.

The England captain heard his name jeered by his own fans when it was read out before kickoff in Marseille.

But Farrell had the last laugh with a dramatic late drop goal and penalty to seal a thrilling win over a stubborn Fiji and secure his side's semi-final showdown with South Africa in Paris.

First-half tries from Manu Tuilagi and Joe Marchant laid the foundations for England's fifth straight win to help Steve Borthwick continue his journey on the road to redemption.

This had promised to be the defining afternoon of Borthwick's first 12 months in charge.

A place in the semis, albeit with the prospect of a hiding from South Africa, would be considered the acceptable minimum.

Defeat to Fiji for the second time in seven weeks, though, would raise more questions about his future let alone his style of play and selection decisions.
