PRESIDENT Joe Biden has warned that America will be on the “path to chaos” if Republican candidates refuse to accept defeats in midterm elections.
“Make no mistake, democracy is on the ballot for all of us,” Mr Biden said in a speech ahead of next week’s elections, which will decide whether Democrats maintain control of both the US Senate and the House of Representatives.
Speaking at Washington’s Union Station, Mr Biden used the hammer attack on Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, as evidence that democracy is under threat less than two years after supporters of his defeated predecessor Donald Trump attacked the US Capitol. “The assailant entered the home asking, ‘Where’s Nancy? Where’s Nancy?’ Those were the very same words used by the mob when they stormed the US Capitol on Jan 6 [2021],” Mr Biden said.
