HOPES were high that Team GB could extend its Olympics gold rush today as Josh Kerr set his sights on victory in the men’s 1,500m final.

Kerr predicts 'vicious' battle for gold as Hodgkinson toasts her win in Paris

The 26-year-old world champion faces his rival , Jakob Ingebrigtsen, in tonight’s showpiece event in Paris after warning the world to expect “one of the most vicious and hardest 1,500m this sport has seen in a very long time”.

“I’m ready to go after it,” said the athlete from Edinburgh, who was a bronze medal winner when Ingebrigtsen grabbed gold in Tokyo in 2021, but who defeated the Norwegian at last year’s World Championships.

Team GB is hoping for more success on the track after Keely Hodgkinson stormed to victory in last night’s women’s 800m final.

The 22-year-old from Atherton, near Wigan, celebrated the win with friends and family in Paris’s Pigalle district, home to the famous Moulin Rouge nightclub. She was spotted dancing the night away at the French Flair bar, and chatting to fans and members of her team with union flags wrapped around them on the outside terrace.
