So, when the Saracens rugby director yesterday labelled Owen Farrell as a future elite-level coach, there could have been no stronger endorsement of the playmaker’s off-field potential.
And when McCall admitted he would hope for Farrell to see his way to coaching at Saracens, a path for the former England captain’s long-term future starts to unfold.
Farrell could easily end up coaching England. The accomplished 32-year-old fly-half is already regarded as an on-field coach, with a supreme tactical and technical appreciation.
Farrell himself does not want to plot his plans beyond vying to end his 16 years at Saracens in style this summer, before heading to Racing 92.
He desperately wants to end his final season at StoneX Stadium with a seventh Premiership title, and maybe even a fourth European crown, too.
