SKY'S THE LIMIT FOR MAINOO, CLAIMS RICE

DECLAN RICE says “the sky is the limit” for Kobbie Mainoo, as the 18-year-old Manchester United midfielder prepares to make his first England start tonight.

Mainoo is in line to make his full debut in the friendly against Belgium after Jordan Henderson was ruled out of the game at Wembley.

England manager Gareth Southgate has admitted injuries have forced him to change his plans, and he is ready to hand Mainoo a Euro 2024 audition alongside Rice in midfield tonight.

West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Brentford’s Ivan Toney are also expected to be handed starts, with Ben Chilwell set to be given another chance at left-back after his difficult evening against Brazil.

Mainoo (right, on Saturday) only made his full Premier League debut for United in November, but Southgate is confident he is ready to start.

Rice, who will captain England tonight on his 50th cap, has been impressed by Mainoo after seeing him close up and said: “Every time I’ve seen him playing for United on the TV, he has been pretty much their best player every game.
