Why Kia doesn't share design with Hyundai

Both are part of the same organisation, but design teams will always be different

POST THE Toyota-Suzuki engineering tie-up, a lot of Maruti Suzuki and Toyota India cars look similar—Ertiga-Rumion, Fronx-Taisor, Invicto-Hycross, Baleno-Glanza. Some Renault and Nissan cars also used to look alike—Duster-Terrano and Pulse-Micra—thanks to the Renault-Nissan alliance.

But even though Kia and Hyundai are part of the same parent organisation, their cars will always look distinct from each other, Teckkoun Kim, the vice-president & head of Kia Next Design Group, told FE. In New Delhi this week during the launch of the Syros sub-4 metre SUV, he said Kia cars have a bold, sporty, and attention-grabbing design, and that unique design philosophy will remain.
