Indices Stage Smart Recovery, Defy Slowdown Concerns

The benchmark indices staged a smart recovery in the second half of the trading session on Wednesday, but ended the day with marginal losses.

After opening at 78,319.45 (which was also the day's high for the index), up 120 points, the Sensex hit an intraday low of 77,486.79, down 832.66 points or 1% from the day's high during the first half of the session.

Subsequently, buying in oil and gas, IT and energy shares helped the index partially recover its losses. It ended the day at 78,148.49, down 50.62 points or 0.06%. The Nifty closed at 23,688.95, down 18.95 points or 0.08%.
