Stipendary scheme: Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) will engage women agents (MCAs). The cost could be ₹845 crore in the first year. The new business generated is likely to be five to seven times the cost incurred, said chairman, Mr. Mohanty. In the first year, LIC targets 100,000 Bima Sakhis and aims to reach the target of 200,000 in three years. The scheme will address unemployment and underemployment, he added. Each MCA is expected to sell at least 24 insurance policies annually. Based on their performance and clearing a test, they can become LIC development officers.
