Shifting gears: Maruti Suzuki to launch 6 EVs by 2030, eyes 15% sales
Financial Express Mumbai|March 29, 2024
AHEAD OF ITS first electric vehicle launch, the eVX in 2025 - and eventually six EVs by 2030 Maruti Suzuki is exploring all options to alleviate range anxiety by enhancing charging infrastructure, despite the fact that the eVX reportedly has a big, 60-kWh battery and a 550-km range.

Shashank Srivastava, senior executive officer, marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India, told FE that the charging infrastructure is still a challenge in India.

"Besides the high acquisition cost, a key reason for slow adoption of EVs in India has been a lack of good charging infrastructure," he said. "Although most people charge EVs at home/office, a widespread public charging infrastructure is essential for overcoming range anxiety."

He added that the carmaker is working on all options to make electric vehicle charging easier and simpler, including having showroom chargers and arrangements with charge point operators.

"Workshops will also require charging facilities, at least for diagnostics; stockyards will require the same for pre-delivery inspection and vehicle delivery preparation," he said.
