BENGALURU: The arrest of Kannada film actor Darshan for a brutal murder and a string of violent crimes against women left the city grappling with questions about safety and justice.
In June, the murder of Renukaswamy emerged as one of the most talked-about cases. His body was discovered in a Kamakshipalya drain, and what initially appeared to be a straightforward crime unravelled into a shocking tale involving Kannada film actor Darshan and his partner, Pavitra Gowda.
Investigations revealed that Renukaswamy had allegedly harassed Gowda with inappropriate messages and explicit content on Instagram. Enraged, Darshan allegedly arranged for his abduction from Chitradurga, bringing him to a shed in Pattanagere where he was assaulted. The injuries proved fatal.
Seventeen people were arrested in connection with the crime, and a detailed charge sheet was filed. Darshan, who had initially been denied bail, was granted temporary relief on medical grounds in October and later secured bail from the high court on December 13.
