Former CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that the amount will be raised to ₹2,100 if the Aam Aadmi Party wins the next assembly elections.
A cabinet meeting headed by Delhi chief minister Atishi cleared the 'Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana', announced in the last state budget. Under the scheme, all adult women who are not tax payers or government employees will get the financial assistance each month.
Addressing a public meeting after the cabinet meeting, Kejriwal said, "In the cabinet meeting chaired by Atishi, a proposal was passed to give ₹1,000 per month to all women in Delhi. The scheme has been implemented in Delhi. Now, women will have to register for the scheme."
He further said that the amount to be disbursed under the scheme will be doubled to Rs 2,100 if the AAP wins the assembly polls, scheduled to be held next year.
"The elections are likely to be announced in the next 15 days, so it is not possible to transfer the money into your accounts. But the scheme has been implemented. While we were working on this scheme, many women came to me and said due to high inflation, ₹1,000 is too little. I am announcing today that the registration will start from tomorrow and the registration will be of Rs 2,100 per month," the former CM and the AAP national convener said.
