PATNA: Amid Opposition's continued attack on law and order situation in the state, Bihar's home department, which is under chief minister Nitish Kumar, came out with statistics to show decline in crime incidents.
According to home department figures, there has been 15.36 per cent decline in dacoity, 5.93 per cent in theft and 15.82 per cent in rioting. Besides, principal home secretary Arvind Kumar Choudhary said prosecution sanction had been given in 1,025 incidents of communal violence.
The home department figures also indicated drop in murders due to land disputed from 60 per cent, as per National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), to 46.69 per cent in 2023, though land survey in the state is yet to be completed. Choudhary further informed that till November this year, Bihar police arrested three lakh criminals, recovered 92 regular weapons, 4,861 illegal firearms, 165 country made bombs, 22,632 live cartridges, 604 detonators and bust 83 illegal mini-gun factories. Bihar police registered 14,078 FIRs on the direction of the courts concerned.
