RANCHI: Rabindranath Mahto was on Tuesday unanimously elected Speaker of the sixth Jharkhand assembly, giving a second consecutive term in the top post to the fourth-term legislator of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
Conducting the proceedings, Protem speaker Stephen Marandi informed the House that seven proposals, one each from all political groups in the house, suggested the name of Rabindranath Mahto as Speaker.
Chief minister Hemant Soren put up the proposal to elect Rabindranath Mahto, which was seconded by senior JMM legislator Mathura Mahto. The resolution was put to vote, which was adopted unanimously by the House. Mahto was then escorted by CM Soren and Jharkhand BJP chief Babulal Marandi to the chair.
