The BJP had planned to hold a march till the state assembly in Patna to protest against the state's teacher recruitment policy and Tejashwi after he was named by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the land-for-job case charge sheet. They were, however, stopped a few kilometers away from the Vidhan Sabha by the police, which resorted to lathi-charge and tear gas shell firing to disperse the protesters.
The BJP alleged that Vijay Kumar Singh, general secretary of BJP's Jehanabad unit, succumbed to injuries he suffered during the police action. BJP spokesperson Prem Ranjan Patel said another party leader, Neena Jha, is in critical condition after she sustained head injuries in the clash.
"Several others are undergoing treatment," he said. The party has announced 10 lakh ex-gratia to the next kin of the deceased.
