Launching the first pulses trading portal for farmers, Shah called upon cultivators to ramp up the production of pulses without worrying about prices.
Shah said the country was looking forward to ending its dependence on pulses imports by 2027.
"I urge farmers to grow more pulses without any concern about prices. If they wish, they are free to sell in open markets and if they feel, they are not getting the right price, then we are there. NCCF (National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Ltd) and Nafed (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd.) will be there to guarantee the right prices," Shah said at a seminar on augmenting pulses productivity.
The portal was another important step towards Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-sufficient India), the minister added.
