Tension gripped the Kot Garvi area of Sambhal city on Sunday after people opposing the court-ordered survey of the Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid, an ASI-protected structure, clashed with police, resulting in the death of four people. The clashes, which involved gunfire and stone-pelting, also left dozens of people and police personnel injured.
Targeting the BJP government over the violent clashes, SP chief and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav demanded that police personnel as well as those from the administration responsible for the deaths be suspended and murder cases be filed against them.
