THE victim of an alleged one-punch attack died in hospital yesterday as gardai prepared a file to send to the Director of Public Prosecutions on the suspect in the case.
Peter McDermott, aged in his 60s, was allegedly assaulted in the high street in Westport, Co Mayo, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Sources said that there was a “brief altercation” between Mr McDermott and another man before he was punched and fell backwards.
