ENTERING his 15th season as a Tipperary senior hurler, it was probably about time that Noel McGrath had the captaincy bestowed upon him.
The LoughmoreCastleiney man was not yet 18 and already had county and Munster club titles to his name when Liam Sheedy first called him into the panel in late 2008.
He's one of a small group that are Tipp's most decorated since the golden era of the 1960s.
Only Seamus Callanan has been around longer so when new manager Liam Cahill pored over his options for the captaincy, McGrath seemed an obvious choice. Previous skipper Ronan Maher (inset) was installed as his vice-captain.
