SHOCKING food complaints in a new report included live maggots in chicken, a plaster in curry and a false nail in cheesy chips.

The discoveries were filed to the Food Safety Authority Ireland last year when gripes soared by 20%.

A FSAI spokesperson said: "Our advice line complaints increased by almost a fifth in 2022. Some 59% of consumer complaints related to unfit food and poor hygiene standards.

"There were 7,363 queries and complaints handled by the FSAI advice line.

The 7,363 queries and grievances concerned 4,058 from consumers and 3,305 from within the food industry.
