Gardai are also investigating separate accidents that cost the lives of three men - and brought the number of fatalities this year to 148.

In Co Clare, Damien Fleming was involved in a collision while taking part in the Clare Rally yesterday afternoon.

In the early hours of yesterday morning, Daniel Houlihan died when he was struck by a vehicle in his native Lisstleton in Co Kerry at around 2am.

And 45 minutes later Moroccan national Mohammed Morsi, 21, died in a motorbike accident in Tallaght, South Dublin.

Officers in Donegal were last night quizzing a suspect over the death of little Ronan.

The man was arrested yesterday afternoon, almost 24 hours after the boy was struck by a car on the Wild Atlantic Way route.
