PADRAIC JOYCE felt a number of factors conspired against a “flat” Galway in last weekend’s Division 1 League final defeat by Mayo.
The ferocity and intensity of defending they showed in their victory over All-Ireland champions Kerry a week earlier at Pearse Stadium wasn't there at GAA HQ.
And a slow start saw a Galway side, chasing their first Division 1 title in 42 years, fall behind by 0-6 to 0-1 after 16 minutes.
They clawed their way back again to within one point on four occasions but could never draw level or go ahead, despite Mayo managing just four points from play to Galway's seven.
Four missed goal chances played a big part, so Joyce may not be overly concerned ahead of the Championship.
