Victim dies after street stabbing in early hours

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder by police investigating the fatal stabbing of a man in his 40s.

Emergency services rushed to Oldham town centre in the early hours of yesterday following reports of a man with suspected knife wounds.

Around 4.20am police were called to Union Street by North West Ambulance Service paramedics.

The victim was found with stab wounds and was taken to hospital in a critical condition, before he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Detectives in Greater Manchester Police's Major Incident Team then launched a murder probe. They are now questioning a man in his 30s on suspicion of murder.

While formal identification has not yet taken place, GMP says officers believe the victim is a man in his 40s from Oldham.
