NHS leaders have warned the service is heading into winter 'under more pressure than ever before'. It comes as new figures show A&E departments in England have just had their busiest October on record. Performance against key targets also fell short in emergency departments and ambulance response times.
The number of people waiting more than 12 hours in A&E departments in England from a decision to admit to actually being admitted stood at 49,592 in October, up from 38,880 in September. This is the third highest monthly figure since comparable records began in 2010.
