Manchester councillors hope to install automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras at seven junctions where it enforces 'moving traffic offences' for crimes like ignoring yellow box markings, making a right or left turn when prohibited, or driving the wrong way down a one-way street.
Rule-breakers can be penalised £70 by Manchester council, which secured enforcement powers from the government in late 2023.
Now, a motion proposed to a town hall meeting today calls for 'accelerated ANPR roll-out' and 'expediting additional high-risk sites for enforcement.
