Chef 'misjudged' effect of whisky

A HARD-WORKING sushi chef at a high-end fish restaurant in Manchester died after he drank a bottle of Jack Daniels on a bench outside his home in the early hours of Christmas Eve, an inquest heard.

Marcin Blok, aged 42, who worked at Sexy Fish, had no history of drink problems but ‘completely misjudged’ the effect of the whisky on his system, according to a coroner who ruled the death just three months after he arrived from his native Poland was caused by ‘fatal alcohol toxicity’.

The chef’s wife, Liobov Karborska, tragically found him collapsed on a bench near their home on Adelphi Street in Salford at 6.30am on December 24 last year, the inquest at Bolton Coroners’ Court heard yesterday.

The pair had moved to the UK to work as sushi chefs.

One of three brothers, he worked as a sushi chef and ‘loved his work’, according to Ms Karborska.
