Hojlund showing real blond ambition

IN among the wreckage of United’s worst start to a season in 37 years, there is one beacon of hope shining brightly for Erik ten Hag, a focal point for those hopeful that things will soon start to turn.

The good news is unavoidable. A 6ft 3in blond centre-forward with pace to burn doesn’t exactly blend into the background. But for the avoidance of doubt, Rasmus Hojund announced his entrance to the biggest stage at Old Trafford on Tuesday night and then celebrated like Jude Bellingham in front of the Stretford End.

It was an entrance and a celebration befitting a messiah and that is what he needs to be for Ten Hag and United. He, more than anyone else, had every right to be furious with the slack defending that gifted Galatasaray victory in the Champions League. What should have been Hojlund’s breakthrough night became another inquest into United’s woeful start to the campaign.

But Hojlund’s impact is a reason to hope that all is not lost.
