I found a lump in my breast on honeymoon

A NEW bride was given a devastating cancer diagnosis after finding a lump while on her honeymoon.

Emma Barker was standing in a hotel room in Thailand, putting on her bikini, when she discovered a lump.

The 29-year-old knew she carried the BRCA1 gene. The inherited altered gene increases the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer.

Overwhelmed with emotion but trying to keep smiling for her husband Tom, Emma took the agonising decision to keep the horrifying discovery a secret until she got home and could go to her GP.

"I was told in 2016 that I had the BRCA1 gene and I knew I had an increased risk of getting ovarian and breast cancer, but I was told that wouldn't happen until I was 40 years old," said Emma.

It was just three days into her honeymoon in December 2018 that Emma discovered a lump.

She said: "I had felt like everything had been going brilliantly, everything was really exciting, almost like everything had been going too well in life.
